One Week Down, Many More to Come!

Good Morning!

As you can probably tell, this email is coming out on Saturday, not Monday. Apparently when you're in the MTC you get a random day during the week to be your Preparation Day so that everyone isn't on break at the same time. Mine just so happens to be Saturday. It'll probably be Monday in the field, though.

First order of business, I am not unique. Over the course of my zoom lessons so far, I have found 8 other Elders, besides my companion and I, who are going to St. George at the same time as me. That makes 10 of us! Do they really need all of us? That's the real question. I suppose I'll find out when I get to St. George, in like 2.5 weeks.

It's a standard when someone goes on their mission that the weeks will fly by, but the days will be long. Well, this first week wasn't really moving until I looked at my calendar and realized it was already Friday. So, I'm honestly surprised that this first week is already almost over. I'm flying out in three days. Wow, soon I won't even be in Texas anymore! Don't worry, it still hasn't sunk in yet.

As far as my learning in the MTC has gone, it's been awesome. I'm part of a district (about 4 companionships who learn in the same classes) and frankly, I love my district. Best one out there, but every missionary will say that. All of them are fun and amazing people with different insights, even if we all glitch out at certain points. Half the time my audio won't work, so I'm literally talking to deaf ears for a few seconds.

My companion is Elder Collier, he's from Louisiana, and he's super hilarious. I would consider him my friend, but I haven't met him in person, so I guess he's my first online friend? Regardless, he's a good help, and has provided a number of good insights during our studies together and as a class. He's been blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, causing me to laugh on more than one occasion. We're also the only two in our time zone, everyone else is from Utah, Idaho, and that one sister from Colorado.

Fun story, I went to Walmart yesterday with my mom and Sandra, my sister. Sandra is learning to drive and about killed us two or three times, thank goodness the Holy Ghost is protecting me, I don't know how I would have returned otherwise. (She's learning and doing great, I'm just teasing her.) Point being, while shopping for some almost last-minute essentials for my mission, this one lady approaches us and says to me, "Excuse me, do you know where the soap is?" I just stared at her for a solid second, before I clued in. I had to tell her I don't work there, and that I was sorry, but the experience was humorous. She took it in stride, though. I did feel a bit out of place, especially listening to 'real' music for the first time in a week, not to mention this being the first time I'd left the house in my missionary attire. There were some curious glances, but my fellow Texans didn't seem to mind.

On a spiritual note, I have definitely felt the Spirit through my classes and personal study. I feel happier, and more at peace. I'm grateful for the spiritual experiences I've had so far, and for the chance I have to share the gospel. I do know that Christ lives, and that we can find peace in this life and the next as we grow closer to God.

I'm including the opening song that was played at my last class, it's a nice, soft one. Some of you may have seen it before. Also, I may post updates on Facebook, like where I live and all that. So, when I move to the MTC, you'll be one of the first to know! Though, spoiler alert, I fly out Tuesday. Have a great day and be safe!

P.S. Thank you to everyone who has supported me on this journey, through physical, emotional, or verbal means. You know who you are, I really appreciate everything you've done for me.
