Adventures in Kaibab

Good Morning!

This past week has been extremely interesting. Every time I get a new missionary something different happens. Let me explain.

I spent the first day of the new transfer as Elder Cammack's companion, which was weird for all our friends in the YSA, but they figured it out. I left on Thursday, when we collected our new missionaries. We were allowed to mix and mingle for a bit, which gave me time to size up everyone. While there, I was approached by another missionary from Texas, Elder Hironymous!

Turns out Elder Hironymous is from Fort Worth, near Burleson. His sister is on a service mission in the DFW area, and serves near my cousin, Sister Ella Williams! That was impressive. However, Elder Hironymous is a reassignment to the Utah St. George Mission as he is originally called to Veracruz, Mexico, speaking the Spanish language. So naturally, 2 hours later, I find out I'm training him.

At this point I think God is having a good laugh with me as He helps me grow. Every time I get a new missionary He throws me for a loop and then some. I'm excited to work with Elder Hironymous. I hope he doesn't leave halfway through the transfer because if he does I'll need a new companion, and there are currently no other English Elders in a trio. So that might mean I get merged with Kanab, which would make our areas drive 2 1/2 hours from end to end. And it would absolutely destroy our schedule. We'll worry about it if it happens. I wouldn't be surprised if it did though.

I definitely didn't get sick this last week starting Thursday. Definitely didn't get mentholatum on Friday. Also definitely didn't have a fever. But everything's fine now, my fever broke last night. And to be safe and conscious of my health, I simply worked three regular proselytizing days involving multiple lessons, many door contacts, speaking assignments in church (and naps too) and we actually never skipped a meal time! I'm sure I didn't spread anything though.

I would fail to relay an accurate analysis of Kanab and Kaibab without mentioning the cliffs. They're everywhere and they're all orange or red. There's a lot of them, and they're all very interesting. I'll try and get more pictures later. But despite such an interesting week, we did find two new friends who are willing to progress and we're eager to keep things moving here. Kaibab has had quite a bit of success in recent history so we're ready to keep the work moving forward.

I also had my first door contact with a lady who was part of the FLDS church. She was very kind. But I had absolutely no clue what to say. I'm already contacting friends who've served here before to get their take on what worked for them. This whole transfer is going to vanish before I ever figure out what we're doing! Luckily I have faith that everything will still move forward so long as we are willing and strive for improvement.

P.S. Bob just walked into the Family History Center and handed my companion and I each 1 Troy ounce of Silver. I don't even know what to think about that!
